On the Akrotiri peninsula, two small coves of fine sand with calm, shallow water, much loved by families from Chania.
Marathi is the well-kept secret of Chania locals when they want calm water without driving for miles. The two bays, separated by a small headland, offer soft sand and water that stays shallow for a long way — ideal for children. A few tavernas serve fresh fish almost at the water's edge.
The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, far from the bustle of the big western beaches. It makes an excellent base, and several holiday houses (such as Casa Marathi) enjoy views over the bay.
