How to do it, step by step

Get to Ierapetra (south-east): by car, or by KTEL bus from Heraklion (~2h30) or Agios Nikolaos. Plan to sleep there.

Buy the ticket at the Venetian port (not sold online). Board for a ~1h crossing, departure around 10:30-11:30.

On the island, stay on the marked trails (the cedar forest is off-limits). Return around 16:00-17:00.

⚠️ The traps to know

Tickets aren't sold online: buy them at Ierapetra port, and book ahead in August (visitor quota).
Protected reserve: marked trails only, cedar forest off-limits, single-use plastics banned, no camping or overnight stay.
No shade, no reliable shop on the island: water, hat and sunscreen are essential.
It's not doable in a day from Heraklion: the road to Ierapetra alone takes ~2h30. Base yourself in the south-east.

Plan B

There's no alternative to the boat for Chrissi. The real « plan » is logistical: sleep in Ierapetra or the south-east the night before, to catch the morning departure stress-free. A car eases access to Ierapetra and the nearby southern beaches.
